Enhancing Durability and Drainage: A Siding and Gutter Refresh in Travelers Rest, SC

We recently traveled to Travelers Rest to assist a client with a comprehensive exterior restoration that combined storm repair with a significant drainage system upgrade.
This project was a “redo,” giving us the opportunity to not only fix recent wind damage but also correct previous issues to ensure the building is protected for years to come.
Restoring the Exterior: Storm Repair and Moisture Protection
The recent storms had been particularly harsh on this building, with high winds actually stripping the siding right off the walls. Our first priority was restoring the structural integrity and aesthetic of the exterior.
We utilized high-quality siding from Royal Building Products in the classic, versatile shade of Sand. However, the most important part of this installation is what you can’t see: we installed a dedicated moisture barrier behind the new siding. This extra layer acts as a critical line of defense, protecting the interior walls from water infiltration and preventing long-term rot or mold issues.
Improving Drainage: From 5” to 6” Seamless Gutters
The building’s original 5-inch gutters were struggling to keep up with heavy South Carolina rainfall. To improve the water management system, we removed the old gutters and replaced them with 6-inch seamless commercial-grade gutters.
By increasing the gutter size and pairing them with oversized downspouts, we significantly boosted the system’s drainage capacity. This ensures that even during torrential downpours, water is moved quickly and efficiently away from the building’s foundation, preventing erosion and potential structural damage.
